Colleen Atwood: "Be strong, be right, be fair"

On this new post, after many days ago, I'll go write about one of my favourite costume designers, this woman called Colleen Atwood.

She was born in Yakima, Washington, the same day that I, on September 25th, but fifty years before in 1945.

In the 11970s, Colleen  studied painting at Cornish College of Arts in Seattle, Washington,  and later worked many places, including the Yves Saint Laurent boutique.

She moved to New York in 1980, where she studied art Iin the New York University,  and started with her movie career as Production Assistant on the movie "Ragtime". "A Little Sex" (1982) was her first film credit.

In 1990, she met the director Tim Burton, and they worked together in eight films: "Edward Scissorhands" (1990), "Ed Wood" (1994), "Cabin Boy" (1994), "Mars Attack!" (1996), "Sleepy Hollow" (1999), "Planet of the Apes" (2001), "Big Fish" (20013), "Nine" (2009), "Alice In Wonderland" (2010), "Dark Shadows" (2012) and "Big Eyes" (2014).

Colleen Atwood has worked in more than sixty films and series. Some of the most famous are "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991),  "Chicago" (2002),  "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" (2004), "The Tourist" (2010), "Snow White and the Hunstman" (2012) and "Into the Woods" (2014).

Also, for the music band My Chemical Romance designed "The Black Parade" band uniforms for the video and the costumes for the album "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys"

She has been nominated as Best Achievement in Costume Design for eleven Academy Awards, but she won only three for "Chicago" (2002), "Memoirs of a Geisha" (2005) and "Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland" (2010).

Two years ago, she made her first Broadway Production with "Breakfast at Tiffany's"

Her career adivice, and one of my favourite motivation quote: "Be strong, be right, be fair". She loves read becuse relax her, just like me.

I appreciate her work cause I think that without her designs a movie doesn't be the same. I admire that her inspirations and referents for the costumes can be so different between one film and other, but the results are always amazing and she had a own style.

Here's my Pinterest's board with pictures of part of her work:

If you could be any Star Wars character, who would you?

If I could be any Star Wars character, I would be Leia Organa.
First motive: is married with Han Solo, the best character ever after Obi Wan (but he is a Jedi master and can't marry)

Leia is the biological daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, senator of Naboo, and is the twin sister of the Jedi knight Luke Skywalker, After her birth, she was separated from her brother and adopted by Viceroy Ball Organa and Queen Breha of Aderaan, and eventually Leia became a senator of the Imperial Senate and member of the Allianc eto Restore the Republic.

His first apparition was in the fourth movie, when she is captured by Darth Vader because she was a spy for the

After Han Solo was freezing in carbonite, Lando Carlyssian help her and Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2D2 to escape in the Millenium Falcon,

Would I do anything differently? Yes, I wouldn't kiss my brother, surely xD

Summer plans

I would like to go to some place in the south of the country for escape of the warm temperatures, like Caburgua or Pucón, but my father doesn't have vacations this year, so I see imposible go out.

If I could do anything, I do anything. Just I would rest in my bed, read something in front of a fan, and eat so much ice cream and watch many british series and movies. I would go out just for go to the cinema or the theatre.

This summer, I want to make a nineteeth century dress, or maybe, easier than that, a regency dress. It could be hard, but since two or three years I think in do it, but never can for different motives.

I would like to work in summer, but I can't, because probably my family and I will travel to Rancagua three or four times in the month at least, cause my grandmother is sick :( So, I will to visit my grandparents, and that city is funnier than mine: I can go to the cinema, walk in parks, know near cities, and the better: is not so warm.

Maybe, I would study in some online courses. Between December and March, in the online platforms appears very interesting courses about different things. Now, I want to do one about write scrips with the BBC as their sponsor.

I'm not sure yet about what I will do, I don't have many plans... but I hope rest and forget the university for one month and a half....

My favourite piece of art

My favourite piece of art is the play "Much Ado About Nothing", written by William Shakespeare between 1598 and 1599.
I like it because
"Much Ado About Nothing" is tells the story of Beatrice and Benedick, that tease and insult one another mercilessly and repeatedly deny that they will ever marry anyone, let alone marry one another. However,  their friends arrange for them to overhear conversations revealing how much each is loved by the other. The other couple, Hero, Beatrice's cousin, and Claudio, Benedick's friend, have problems for stay together.

Sweeney Todd

One of my favourite musicals Sweeney Todd: The Dmeonb Barber of Fleet Street.
It was created in 1979 with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and the book by Hugh Wheeler, and it is based on a fictional character of the penny dreadful called "The Strings of Pearls" written in 1847.

Set in 19th century in England, the musical tells the story of the barber Benjamin Barker, who returms to London after 1fifteen years in prison for false charges imposed by Judge Turpin. Barker looks for his daughter and wife, but Mrs Lovett, owner of a pie shop, tells him that his wife commited suicide some years ago and his daughter lives with the Judge. Barker decides take revenge and kill him, meanwhile he's still working as a barber, but under the name of Sweeney Todd.

The original production premiered in Broadway in 1979, with Len Cariou as Todd and Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. The costume design was by Franne Lee, and the stage design by his husband, Eugene Lee.

Other excellent productioms are the 2005 Broadway revival with Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone in the principal roles, and costumes designed by Patrick Chevillot, the same designer of the movies Spiderman 3, and Night at the Museum 2.

And the 2012 London Revival, with Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, better as known for his role as the professor Umbridge, in Harry Potter series. The costumes was designed by Anthony Ward, a very reconocido british theatre designer.

In 2007, Tim Burton directed the film adaptation of this musical, with Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter, and other english actors like Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and the comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.  The costumes for the movie was designed by Colleen Atwood, my favourite costume designer.

This is my favourite musical because I like the songs very much, are wondeful, and the costumes are one of my Colleen Atwood's favourite. Also, the story is a part of comedy and a part about drama, and got a bit of gore, a great mix :)

My future job

In the future, I would like to work in costume design, especially in England or Australia. I want make designs for great plays, movies and television. I wanna do this because I think that places are the best for this kind of design, and in that countries are the better and most famous schools of theatre in every kind. I would like to work in animation too and design the costumes for stop motion characters, and work with great creators like Aardman animation studios and thier famous characters like Morph, Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep.

I don't prefer between indoors or outdoors, I would like to work in a bit of both. Also I would love to travel in this job, and know and look for more references around the world and know many places like museums, theatres and houses.

I don't think that I would use an office, I would prefer a room with a sewing machine and a desktop where I can draw and do the design sketches.

Sometimes I think in write a book, because I have many ideas that I wrote in different notebooks in my room, but I never dedicate time for write them as a long story. I have many ideas, and I hope made a movie, or an animation at least, about one of them.

A Photograph!

I found this picture in flickr the last semestre, and I love it!
It shows the city of Edinburgh, in Scotland, cover of snow, a couple of days before christmas, and was taken by Alasdair McIntosh, a british photographer.

I would like to live in this city one day, so it shows me the beautiful it can be.
I like the contrast of the colours, between the twilight and the city. I love the architecture. I think that the picture shows the essence of th city on winter. I love this season, especially in countries of Europe, cause the landscapes are very different that Chile, and I love the snow and the cold days.

This picture reminds me Charles Dickens books, maybe for the old buildings along with the snow, beautiful stories like Little Dorrit or Great Expectations.

Cause that books are some of my favourites, this pictures reminds me that, and I hope live in there place one day.
Simply: I love this picture! <3

If today was my last day on Earth?

First of all, I would go to eat the lunch at the breakfast time in the italian restaurant, Pastamore (I promised me that I'll never eat again italian food until go there, but I don't go yet)
After, I would spend all my money, even that I don't have thanks to the credit cards, and I would buy a private jet with a personal pilot for go, first, to the United States to a concert of one of my favourite bands, Steam Powered Giraffe (they never travel to other countries u.u), and if they don't have a concert today, I paid them for a private show xD
Later, I would travel to UK and I would jump out of the jet with a parachute before to go to meet my niece. After that, I would go to see Hamlet in the Barbican Theatre, I would pay to somebody for to infiltrate me as Ophelia and I would kiss Benedict Cumberbatch in the first occasion that I see him in the stage.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Hamlet

The guards would follow me, but I would run for my life (just like say The Doctor) until arrive to 221B Baker Steet looking for a hidden place inside, and wait for the man who got a TARDIS that travel against time and places....

My favourite celebration of the year

My favourite day is Halloween, on October 31st.
It's a day when all wear costumes, give and receive candies and make parties.

Some people thinks that halloween is the worst day in the year, a day of bad luck or about death celebration, but it depens of the education and beliefs of each people. I like the Mexican interpretation in the Dia de los Muertos: they celebrate his

This day is important to me cause, since two years at least, I remember to my deceased family, especially my grandfather. Other reason is because Halloween is one of those days when somebody can be a different person (or thing) just for fun and without strange looks.

I don't remember when, but one year with two friends we did a little party. We was in costumes and watched vampire movies all night, until the other day.

For now, I don't have any plans for Halloween's Eve, but I'm sure that I think in something.

The Best Concert (and the only one for now) I've Ever Been To

As an early gift for my birthday the last year, my parents gave to me tickets for Michael Bublé's concert. It was in the Movistar Arena on September 9th.

The most amazing thing was that day is his birthday, so me and all the audience sang the "Happy Birthday" to him, and he was so shy xD That day was his 39th birthday.

Michael Bublé is a Canadian singer of jazz and pop rock, and had eight studio albums, even one of Christmas songs. Most of songs that he  sang in the concert was from his last album: To Be Loved.

That was awesome! The atmosphere was so energetic, romantic and sometime funny, especially when Michael spoken spanish: he can speak it almost perfect (cause his wife is Argentinian), but he made absurd, crazy and random comments like if he doesn't speak in spanish xD The most funny thing was when he presented a song as the most romantic one in the world, and that song was Backstreet Boys' Everybody hahaha xD

I enjoy the concert especially because this was the first and the only one that I went in my life, but that change the next Thursday cause I will go to the concert of the british band Muse :D

A country I'd like to visit

I never traveled to other country, buy my dream is visit England.

I have many reasons for choose this country. First, my favourite authors live there, like William Shakespeare, Jane Austen and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Also, my favourite series and movies are english, and some locations like Chatsworth House (Pride and Prejudice movie), Highclere House (Downton Abbey), or the same Baker Street from Sherlock Holmes stories.

But one of the most important reason is that in Frome, Somerset lives my nephew Otis, a cute two years old kid, but until now only knows him by pictures.

I would like to go to the Jane Austen Festival dated on September of every year for nine or ten days, in Bath. I love how people dress like the regency era and like the principal characters of the books. Also, Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff is a great place for any "whovian", like me.

I would live in London, but it's cheaper to live with my famly in Frome, at the begining at least. It would be wonderful if a school like RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) or LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) accepts me for continue my studies of Costume Design. About a job, could be in almost anywhere, but sometimes in the Sherlock Holmes Museum needs people to work in costumes, and thats would be great.

Daleks in London!
Daleks are the principal villains in Doctor Who series

My Blogging Experience :)

Sincerely, I'm doing this quickly cause I don't have much time. I'm so tired and maybe I could fall asleep at the computer keyboard

The experience on this blog was good, but I don't like it so much cause almost always I didn't know what to say, especially when I was have "the mind in other place", just like now.
Also, I think the time spent in the blog isn't enough: we especially spent our time writing, but not so much speaking.
I'm not sure if my writing skills have developed in this blog, cause I think that the most of times I wrote in english with my previous knowlege: not using uncommon words or new english words for me.
But I think that with this experience in a blog, helps me to practice my English writing about fun topics.

Other good topics to include in the future could be our favourite Holidays, our favorite Superheroes and/or super villains, even could be about our favorite book or fairy tale.

I don't know, and I don't have much mind to think more about this, but was a unique and nice way to practice, learn and apply the English language.

Happy Semester ending! See ya for now!!!

Movies!

It is difficult to me choose just one movie.
Maybe Nightmare Before Christmas or Frankenweenie from Tim Burton, or Harry Potter series. Even, I might consider the British series, "Sherlock", as a sequence of movies cause of the length of its chapters.

I like Tim Burton movies cause he shows their own vision of the life, dark and light aspects, of an original way, I love his unconventional stories <3 Harry Potter movies always have been my favourites, they motivated to me to read when I was a child. And I like "Sherlock" cause Sherlock Holmes is my favourite literature detective and this series gets a different focus of the story, especially cause is ubicated in the 21st century, and not in 19th century

My favourite actors are Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Depp, and my favourite actress are Helena Bonham Carter and Maggie Smith. All, except for Johnny, are British,

As you can see before in this and another post, my favourite director is the amazing Tim Burton!!!

Here's my Pinterest board with pictures of his movies :)

Follow Lizzy Alice Lawrence's board Tim Burton on Pinterest.

Also, I'm very fan of Aardman Animations Studios, where the co-creators Peter Lord, David Sproxton and Nick Park, are directors of his movies and series, like Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep.

I prefer watch movies at the cinema, but always I don't have money or some films never arrive to Chilean cinemas, especially the English ones, like Mr Holmes, a new Sherlock Holmes story with Ian McKellen in the principal role, I've been waiting for two months, and I'm still wait it...

A lot of music :)

Music is one of the most important aspect of my life, is my company when I'm alone or when I'm travelling or/and reading, a source of stress relief because it calm down and relax me on bad days. And on good days is a source of inspiration and expression, add awesomeness to everyday. Also, music is my way to escape from the real world: I just listen and let myself go.

My best memory related to music is from the last year when I went to the Michael Bublé concert on the Movistar Arena. It was one of the best days of my life.

I have attended to the first and second version (in 2014 and 2015) of the "Encuentro de Música Medieval" in Santiago, and always Mira Gestorum surprise me, each year are better <3

I got a LOOOOT of favourite artists and bands, because it deepens of the day and my mood

Some of them are: Steam Powered Giraffe, Blackmore's Night, Within Temptation, Hugh Laurie, Muse, Panic! At the Disco, Bon Jovi, and Kyary PamyuPamyu. If you can see, all are from different music styles xD

I love classical music, not only the "classics" like Beethoven or Mozart, also I appreciate works like soundtrack of movies and musicals, especially composed by John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman and Stephen Sondheim. I love the music of Lindsey Stirling, a performer artist, dancer and violinist, all of the same time :)

Six years ago, a friend taught to me how to play piano, but I lost practice cause I don't have one (a good one is expensive D:), but until today I remember big part and if try I can play a little bit. Also, I took a little extra course in my school about how to play violin three years ago, but it happens some similar: the violin wasn't mine, was of my cousin. Now, I want to buy an electric violin (not one of minimalist style) someday.

FOOD!

I almost can't do it this post, is early and in the web appears many pictures that looks delicious about this topic, and now I'm hungry xD

I don't have to think a lot for decide that my favourite type of food is Italian. I love how looks and I think his taste is much better than that.

But my favourite plate is hard to choose. I don't know what is the best!!! I'm between Gnocchi, Risotto or Lasagna, even Ravioli D:

In the second place, I would try to choose a dessert. Mission impossible. Maybe the Marron Glacé or the Panna Cotta.

Two of my favourite ingredients casually are italian. Ricotta and Nutella <3 The first is so expensive, and the second, the last five month I haven't bought it cause in everywhere sell Nutella made in Germany, and it doesn't have the same taste.

The only italian recipe that I made is Spaghetti alla Carbonara, it is spaghetti with bacon and eggs.

About me cooking, my specialty are two: the omelette (I don't have any photo for now :/), made with milk, black pepper, cheese, another secret ingredients (muahahahaha xD) and of course, eggs. And the Chocolate Swirled Pound Cake, made with vegetal milk. Both are delicious! And everyone that taste my omelette or my cake tells me that (after they eat it all, and left nothing for me u.u)

My dear Pets!!

Hello again!

In this post, I'll write about my pets!!

I have a female dog called Ginny (like Ron's sister in Harry Potter), she's seven years old.
Here goes a pic!!

Also, I have four cats: Lulú, Mycroft (like Sherlock's brother), Ca.Bo. (Cara Bonita) and Loki (like Thor's brother). They have been with me ten, one and a half, one, and three years respectively.

And two more kitties, but they are "pensioners". Their names are Ginger (cause she's got her hair almost all red) and Botas Canela. They are pensioners cause Ginger lives in my garden and Botas Canela in who-knows-where, but both eats in my house. (I haven't photos of Botas :( )

I love my pets so much!! I play running behind them, to football with Ginny, and with plushie rats and tiny balls with my kitties. Especially Lulú and Mycroft sleep with me almost all nights.

That's it! Good Night!!

My fav piece of tech: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

My favourite piece of technology is my Galaxy Note 10.1, a tablet.

My parents gift to me two and a half years ago cause I wanted some tablet that it have a pencil for draw and write and can convert handwriting to "computer words".

I like my Galaxy cause I can do so many things with it: download games, keep my favourite pages open all day, draw designs, write stories and documents, and cause it's lighter than a computer. I think that is the best invention of this decade, cause it's very easy to use, and the transport of it.

Usually I use it every day, almost every hour, but It dies two months ago D: I don't now why, but cannot works with fingers only with the pencil, and don't have money for pay a technical supporting.
I miss my Galaxy!

Expectations for a new semester

I never thought about my expectations for any semester before, that one day I'll write about that.

I expect learn more about everything!

This semester, is the third semester in my career, and my subjects are: History of the Modern and Contemporary Art, History of Theatre II, Investigation Methodology, Making Techniques III (with three modules: Construction of Stage, Make up, and Costume Construction) and this class.

I have a extracurricular subject too: Film Forum. Here, we watch movies from any countries and years, for later do a forum. This is so amusing :)

In a online course, I'm trying to learn a little bit of Italian, because I think it is a beautiful language <3

I'm so excited because I will go to the ComicCon again, and I hope will be better than the past year. I'm in the Doctor Who Chile group, and we want take pictures of the cosplays from the tv series  in this event.

Too, I want to take a neuroscience, criminalistics or forensic science course in any place (maybe on the web). I know! This subjects have nothing to do with the Theatre Design, but I would like to know about this topics.

Finally, I would like to do a stop-motion short film, idea inspired by Peter Lord (co-founder of Aardman Animations studio), a great english man that will make a master class the next month in our country and I'm his fan since I was a child.

I hope this semester be very successful!
